Richard P. Slaughter
The late Richard P. Slaughter founded Richard P. Slaughter Associates in 1991 with his belief that the firm could offer excellent financial advice and asset management without product constraints or conflicts of interest. His vision resulted in forming one of the very first fee-only financial adviser companies in the United States. As a pioneer in this field, he once remarked that “I wanted a business that would make the client King and Queen and that would represent their interests one hundred percent.”
“When I look back at what has been accomplished around my original belief, I just have to smile,” he said in his retirement letter in 2014. “We are year-after-year recognized as a leader in the industry in customer service, financial management and ethical standards. But what brings the biggest smile is the knowledge that we have assembled a dedicated team of employees who have worked with so many of you to reach your financial goals.”
Mr. Slaughter served as President, CEO and Treasurer of the company until 1997, retaining Treasurer duties until 2000. He served as Chairman of the Board until 2014. During his leadership tenure, he directed the company's path to providing clients with a full range of expert financial services including financial planning and asset management.
Prior to founding Slaughter Associates, Dick was an investment adviser at both Paine Webber and Prudential-Bache Securities and finished near the top in a nationwide Barron’s Stockpicking Contest. In 2010, he was named as a 5 Star Wealth Manager by Texas Monthly Magazine.
“I’ve always operated on the philosophy that your success is our success. And that has proven to be true as we’ve built our business primarily from your referrals, which is the ultimate compliment,” he said. “It has been a great honor to grow this firm with such amazing clients, friends, and employees and I thank you for trusting us with your business.”
